Sinopsis
Claude Zoret is a master in the art of painting. Young Eugène Michael, who he took in as his foster son, is his muse and model. One day the princess Zanikow asks Zoret to be painted. From then on the Russian lives around the house for a while. As her plan to marry the rich artist fails, she seduces Michael. Zorets old friend Switt makes him aware of their relationship and their excessive lifestyle. Michael and Zanikow even steal from him and they let it happen. Left by his protégé Michael, Zoret becomes a lonely and broken man. In his loneli-ness he paints a masterful work of art, Job, and all of Paris bows to his geni-us. But even then he misses Michael and get sick from disappointment and grief. On his deathbed he appoints Michael as sole heir. Once again he asks for him in vain and tells his friend Switt he could now calmly die, for he has experienced deep love.
