Sinopsis
Ánimas Trujano es un indígena hosco e irresponsable de un pequeño pueblo mexicano, que engaña a su leal esposa con la prostituta del pueblo. Su gran sueño es ser elegido algún día mayordomo (la persona que organiza las fiestas durante todo el año) de la localidad, honor que se concede al ciudadano más respetado. Cuando su hija mayor queda embarazada, Ánimas, cegado por la ambición, vende al bebé para obtener el dinero que lo haga candidato al título. La única película que Toshirô Mifune filmó en México, fue nominada al Premio Oscar y ganó el Premio a la Mejor Película Extranjera en los Globos de Oro en 1962. Ánimas Trujano is a taciturn and irresponsible indigenous man from a small Mexican village who cheats on his loyal wife with the town prostitute. His greatest dream is to one day be elected mayordomo of the town, an honour granted to the most respected citizen. When his eldest daughter becomes pregnant, Ánimas, blinded by his ambition, sells her baby to obtain the money to make him a candidate for the title. The only film that Toshirô Mifune starred in Mexico– was nominated for an Oscar and won Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes in 1962 Rita, a poor girl from a fisherman family, leaves her village in Yucatan to pay off her father's debts. Her sacrifice gets her an abundant but unhappy lifestyle by the side of a married politician who turns her into a famous dancer. Starring the superstar of rumbera films, Ninón Sevilla and with a cinematography signed by Gabriel Figueroa, a notable figure of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema (cinematographer of THE YOUNG AND THE DAMNED and THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL), the work successfully blends melodrama with the analysis of social disparities.
